This seminar will focus on the management of natural habitats as well as proven and new techniques involved in the control of invasive exotic plant and animal species in South Florida. Many people in US cities including the cities of Lee County are finding ways to succeed at a new kind of farming - urban farming. This 4-week evening course will introduce participants to urban agricultural systems including organic, low-input, alternative, biodynamic, holistic, permaculture, and other farming systems that are ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially responsible.
9,16,23, 30	The UF/IFAS Lee County Extension, in collaboration with the Beekeepers Association of Southwest Florida (BASF) offers a 4-week introductory beekeeping class this summer. Classes begin on Friday August 9, 2013. Space is limited to 40 students. Students receive basic startup kit including bee veil, smoker, bee box and resource books.
